"April in Paris, chestnuts in blossom
    Holiday tables under the trees
April in Paris, this is a feeling
    No one can ever reprise"

Freddy Martin had it right. There really is no better place than Paris in April. With the blooming gardens, the warm spring weather and lower costs and crowds, the shoulder season is an ideal time to take a trip to the City of Lights.
So how much can you expect to accomplish in just over a week? To give you some perspective, my husband and I walked an average of 10 miles per day. We picked out 2-3 attractions each day and split our time using the (very convenient) metro and wandering the streets. Since this was our first trip, we knew we had to hit the highlights including Notre Dame, the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. We also managed to take in a dinner show at the Moulin Rouge, a tasteful Parisian experience with entertaining sets and catchy music.
Have enough time for a day trip? Spring is the perfect time to visit the palace and gardens of Versailles. We chose to pay extra for the musical garden and fountain experience which added to the regal ambiance. Strolling through the almost 2000 acres of trees, flowers, sculptures and fountains transports you back in time and makes for a wonderous afternoon.
By far the most magical part of the trip was wandering the streets, admiring the architecture and relaxing in the various gardens. No matter what your plans for Paris are, be sure to make time to get lost in the streets and soak in the historic city beauty. Admire the stained glass at Sainte-Chapelle. Climb the steps up Montmatre. Window shop on the Champs-Elysees. You're in Paris. Enjoy the view.
